STARTS

Norfolk County Council is working with Sustrans to deliver cycling, wheeling and walking activities across Great Yarmouth and Norwich until march 2025 with the aim to get more people choosing to travel actively for short journeys.

Sustrans will be working with local communities, particularly those with lower rates or walking, wheeling and cycling and with those where it would make the biggest difference.

Walking, wheeling and cycling…

Walking, wheeling and cycling for local journeys has been shown to have huge benefits to an individual’s physical and mental wellbeing but can also save people money, open up new opportunities, and enable independence. Active travel can also have benefits for the wider neighbourhood by reducing noise and air pollution, promoting community cohesion and boosting local businesses.

Norfolk’s Active Travel Initiative

The initiative is being funded by money from the Capability Fund awarded to Norfolk County Council by Active Travel England and is being delivered by Sustrans. Sustrans is a charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. Sustrans connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, transform the school run and deliver a happier, healthier commute. Sustrans are also the custodian of the National Cycle Network.
