One journey at a time…
With the launch of our new Travel Norfolk website and journey planner we’re asking people to think about the journeys they make and if there is a better way of making them.
It’s not always an option to leave the car at home – sometimes the load is too heavy, the distance is too long, or the weather is too bad.
But…
…did you know 50% of journeys are under 2 miles?
Switching short trips in the car for walking, cycling or public transport can have a massive impact for the environment, reduces congestion for all and helps keep you fit and healthy.
In the UK 55% of transport emissions come from passenger cars and as well as releasing a lot of carbon into the atmosphere it dramatically decreases the quality of the air we’re breathing. At a modest pace of 12 mph (20 km/h), it would take a person less than 10 minutes to travel 2 miles by bike.
Walking
Walking or cycling for just 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, can halve the risk of heart disease. PLUS, it reduces stress, cholesterol and blood pressure. Not to mention, you’ll get there faster because walking and cycling avoids traffic congestion and can be the quickest way to get around.
